I have been using google pay ever since it came out and never really enjoyed the user experience of it. Back then I wasn’t a UX designer, so I didn’t know what to do, but now that I am. I decide to redesign it so, google knows what sort of crappy product they have built without even doing user research.

Google has just built a product with great marketing strategy to win over their competitors, but it would have been better if they also focused on the user experience of the app.

Section 1

What the heck is this anyway?

It’s a method to make transaction to unknown contacts who are right next to you.

Research Results

  1. 7/10 people simply ignore this option because they don’t know anything about it.
  2. To make transaction to unknown people we already have QR codes which covers 90% of unknown transactions.
  3. People don’t want to learn a new method to make transaction.

.

Solution Proposed

  1. Focus on methods to which people are more familiar to such as QR code Scanner.
  2. This feature is not as important to be placed on top with such wide screen area.
  3. Put this option after the user clicks on new transaction button.
Section 2

.

Finally found it

New payment button

Research Results

  1. User has to really stare at the screen to find the new payment button.
  2. Priority of this button is way higher than the nearby payments feature.
  3. It annoys the user when they are not able to find the desired option within first 3–4 seconds.

.

.

Solution Proposed

  1. Reposition the button probably on top to make it visible on first glance.
  2. Make the button in such a manner so it stands out form the rest of buttons.
Section 3

.

.

When will the scrolling end?

All transactions contacts being shown on home screen

Research Results

  1. It’s really annoying to scroll through so many unnecessary contacts to just get to the features below.
  2. Too much content on home screen leading to bad user experience
  3. Nobody wants to see this long list which is not of even any use to them now.

Solution Proposed

  1. Show only recent transactions.
  2. Option for all transactions and option to expand and shrink the list.

.

Why So long Google?

.

.

.

.

Somebody please stop this scrolling!!

Section 4

.

.

.

.

.

Mind your own business Google

Feature to make transaction and book services from other apps.

Research Results

  1. 7/10 people don’t use this feature.
  2. This method doesn’t provide the full user experience when compared with original apps.
  3. Priority of this section is the least.

.

.

Solution Proposed

  1. Improve the user experience of app when third party apps open.
  2. Place it after the features which have higher priority such as check balance.

Redesign of the app just for you Google

New Design

Improved the overall functionality of app and reduced the home screen size

New Design

.

Section 1

  1. Option for new transaction
  2. QR Scanner and nearby feature redesigned
  3. New transaction button highlighted

Section 2

  1. Display only recent transactions
  2. Option to expand and hide

Section 3

  1. All transaction feature brought next to other transactions
  2. Check balance option brought up according to priority

Section 4

  1. Promotions sections brought up because it’s used more
  2. Refer and earn option added to this section for relevancy

Section 5

  1. This is the least used section of app that’s why it’s kept at the bottom
