This to me has been the only Colin Kaepernick reaction article that really matters. There are a lot of big ideas involved in Kaepernick’s current actions. But those ideas are very easily lost if someone doesn’t take the time to actually apply them to the context of their own lives. The entire conversation with your kids was just fascinating as it shows what I believe to be the truly important consequences of a famous athlete making a stand. This is one of the reasons that I want more athletes to engage in political activism. Even if I don’t agree with their ideology (especially if I don’t agree) it exposes kids to ideas and starts making them think about difficult concepts and forming their own ideology. This is crucial in their own development. Thank you for this article Shea and for showing us some of the personal positive effects from an athlete engaging in activism.
