How did v2oconnect start?

It all started at a small coffee shop in New York City in 2014. We were discussing about our plans for the spring holidays after we had come back from attending a book reading event. During the conversation one of us asked if there were any organizations or medium that matched volunteers with organizations in Nepal, if they were interested in volunteering. None of us could come up with any names. Jokingly, we all chimed in, “maybe, we can start something” that connects volunteers with organizations and laughed about it. Little did we know, our ‘laughing idea,’ would turn into a real platform for connecting volunteers with organizations in Nepal.

Weeks and months after our initial ‘sparkling thought,’ we continued to discuss more about it and decided to work on our idea. We all were eager to start our project as we were excited to create new possibilities for the volunteers, organizations and recipients who could benefit from each other. We would come up with ideas on our own and then discuss with each other during our weekly meetings.

Our work had to be ‘paused,’ for few months, when our family and friends in Nepal were directly affected by the devastating April 25th earthquake. All of us realized the importance of a platform, that would seamlessly connect volunteers with organizations using the technology, even more during the earthquake crisis. On our first meeting after the earthquake, we all agreed that it was not an option, but a necessity to create such platform.

In the next months, we continued to work week after week — gathering data, discussing and generating new ideas. Soon our team grew from four to six as we added two more new members to our family — a website developer and an account executive.

We are still a work in progress, but on January 1st — we are presenting before you our work from past several months. Please let your friends and family who might be interested in volunteering opportunities in Nepal know about us. Also, let us know about our glitches and areas of improvement so that we can better connect those kind-hearted souls sacrificing their time and talents with their areas of interested volunteering opportunities seamlessly. Thank you from all of us. See you on our space at www.v2oconnect.com
