Major mistakes and misconceptions in real time communications
In nowadays fast growing business environment, having a real-time communication is almost required, whether it is an application or a business model. Generally, many businesses, be it a game or web-page, require an application with video chat, voice call and instant messaging (file sharing). So it’s both kind of trendy in business world and requirement for a promising business.
Let me first define what is real-time communications (RTC). Real-time communications (RTC) is a term used to mention any live tele-communications that takes place without any transmission delays and hindrances. It includes: video chat, voice call and instant messaging (file sharing). RTC is instant with minimal response time.
Many people have common misconceptions about the real-time communication and its implications. So, the first and the major mistake people usually do is when they take the open source system and implement it on their acting system. As an example of it is WebRTC. While doing a research I come across with many articles where people seek solutions through WebRTC and try to implement their business solutions (game, web-page) via WebRTC or other open-source systems. It can ensure technical solution but not a business solution. So after implementing some steps you will face very complex hindrances and it will become useless.
The second mistake and misconception is that very often people don’t fully understand the difficulties and features of live-streaming. To make a strong illustration of the point let us consider physics. In physics there are different measurement mechanism; measurements in quantum mechanism, in high-speed, etc. In case of measurements in quantum mechanism other standard measurement are not applicable. The underlying meaning of the example is that even if in programming and application development there are standard rules they are not applicable to live streeming. Programming is generally based on the mathematical concepts of logic; there are areas of programming that require strong mathematical skills and some that do not require, like live-streaming.
Finally, the third point is that people think that it is possible to create an application that meets the requirements of users: secured, user oriented, with beautiful design like Zangi or WhatsApp in one month, which is technically possible, but not a good decision a business can ever make. Generally you can take any open source system and make some technical solution through it, but if you want to have business solution, practically it is not possible. In Apple store and Google Play there are hundreds of applications, but only few of them are secured and reliable and meet users’ requirements.
So to have a secured and reliable business solution in real-time communications takes quite a long time to make it workable.
