The 2018 Asian Games officially known as the 18th Asian Games and also known as Jakarta — Palembang 2018. For the first time, the Asian games are being co-hosted in two cities; Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia (which is hosting the games for the first time since 1962), and Palembang, the capital of the South Sumatra province.

The opening ceremony and closing ceremonies of the games were being held at Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium in Jakarta.

The games were officially opened by the President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo

For the first time, eSports and Canoe Polo was contested as demonstration sports.

eSports is expected to be a medal event at 2022 Asian games.

Hanoi, Vietnam was originally selected to host the games. They withdraw citing economic recession.

Asian Games 2014 was held in Incheon, South Korea.

Asian Games 2022 will be held in Hangzhou, China

On July 2018, the Indonesian Asian Games organizing committee (INASGOC) an official music album of the 2018 Asian Games titles Asian Games 2018: Energy of Asia.

The album consists of 13 songs involves several cross-genre musical artists.

The torch relay began at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi, host of the 1st Asian Games, on 15 July 2018.

The relays traveled through 54 cities in 18 provinces in Indonesia, including host cities.

The organizers of the 2018 Asian games have produced three unique mascots, who represents the Indonesian heritage. The mascots also represent the different Indonesian region.

1- Bhin-Bhin

The first mascot of the 2018 Asian Games is bird-of-paradise.

2- Atung

The Bawean deer, as the name suggests, is from the Bawean region of Indonesia.

3- Kaka

The third an final mascot of 2018 Asian Games is the Javan Rhinoceros, Kaka.
