Royalty Free Stock Image Websites — Hi Res Images Free for Entrepreneurs and Startups!

There are a lot of times when budding entrepreneurs or future unicorns are stuck with having to purchase a single image for over INR 4000–5000 or over INR 50,000 for a set of 4–5 images in high resolution burning a hole in their already strewn pockets! Here’s a list of my most preferred sites for downloading royalty free stock images you can consider for your next project

1. Pexels 2.0

Pexels has everything you need!

Pexels is my absolute favorite for downloading a vast range of photos for my blogs. Almost all genres are covered and the search feature works smoothly. In my opinion it even more amazing than paid stock photo sites like Getty Images, Shutterststock and co on top of being absolutely free. It gives you the following new features:

  1. You can now search for colors (try to search for “color: blue”)
  2. A new popular photos section where you can browse through interesting categories and see popular photos
  3. They now upload 10 instead of 5 new photos per day!

2. Unsplash

Unsplash : Free (do whatever you want). Every month over 600 million pictures are viewed on Unsplash. The library has 50,000+ photos. They have recently introduced the Search feature making it one of the best stock royalty free photos website on the internet.

3. Pixabay

Pixabay is an absolute delight, it is an entrepreneur’s dream. They have among the best collections of work related pictures along with some serious collection of exotic food earch feature, the images are absolutely brilliant. And most images don’t even require any attribution.

Attribution required? No, for almost all images

4. Picjumbo

Picjumbo has amazingly high resolution photos and has a insanely beautiful collection of food related pictures. If you’re running a food tech startup, you will fall in love with this one.

Attribution required? For most images, NO.

5. Stock Up

Stock Up has one of the largest collections here. You will find laptops, puppies to landscapes here. Their collection is surprisingly fresh and greets you with new images every time you visit the site. I absolutely love the insane number premium looking options they provide.

6. FreePik

Freepik has unlimited supply of not just hi-res photos but also boasts of a huge collection of icons, vectors, minimalist images making it your go-to place for any kind of project! Their search feature offers unparalleled flexibility in zeroing in on the perfect image.

7. Gratisography

Gratisography has quirky images in its colorful collection and is the brainchild of the insanely talented artist and web designer Ryan McGuire. One of the interesting things is that there is no detailed description of image available, clicking on the image will instantly download it. I believe this feature is a god sent in your daily work routine.

8. FreeImages

FreeImages is one of the largest directories of open-source images. It offers thousands of pictures from a diverse set of categories. More importantly, it is searchable, which is a much need time-saver when you’re working on a deadline.

9. StockSnap

StockSnap has images with highest quality. Their search feature is savvy and will provide you with latest pictures in a niche of your choosing. I particularly like the food shots, laptop shots. You won’t be disappointed with it like ever!

10. New Old Stock

New Old Stock is a vintage focused stock image collection curated by Cole Townsend. It is a exquisite collection of retro images sorted from personal and commercial archives for public use.

However there is no search or sorting available making discovery process an infinite scroll through huge list which can be frustrating. Nevertheless there are really cool pieces of art you could use when you need some inspiration. Simply scroll down and wait for a “click” or “tada” sound in your mind

Bonus Life Pro Tip: How to get watermark free version of paid images.

Google: If you have a picture you want to use from a particular paid site, just right click on that image, click on ‘Search Google for this Image’ and you’ll find free versions of that picture live on other sites. Although borderline unethical (you shouldn’t be using images without royalty) you can always contact the site owner for attribution.
