I was a kid when I saw it for the first time. I was really afraid to touch it because it was too hot to handle. One slow bite and I realized we are meant for each other. And that’s how our affair started. Even after all these years, it has not lost its passion.

“A hot cup of tea with dho garamagaram samose is a perfect combination for every tummy in the evenings from usual stressful day.”

Samosa: the best invention ever.

A samosa is a fried or baked dish with a savoury filling, most commonly spiced potatoes, onions, peas, paneer or lentils. Its size and consistency may vary on different regions, but it is distinctly triangular in shape. Indian samosas are usually vegetarian, and often accompanied by a mintchutney and meethichutney (red tamarind chutney). Samosas are a perfect appetizer, or snack in the local cuisines of the Indian subcontinent. Due to cultural diffusion and emigrations of people from India, samosas in today’s world are also prepared and popular in other regions.

Samosas are made by simple ingredients such as flour, potatoes, peas, salt and other spices. A filling of mashed boiled potatoes is made and spices are added to it, in order to give it a flavor to die for. Thin sides of the kneaded dough are rolled out and the ready filling goes into it as the dough neatly hugs it from all the sides in the shape of a triangle. Then, it is deep-fried in vegetable oil until it becomes golden brown in color.

Samosas are getting fried in vegetable oil.

A better description for samosas can be when piercing the outer shell, we inhale the aroma and pause for a second. We eat a small piece with a dip in mint chutney, as the blended taste of crisp shell and soft potatoes mixed with coriander, paneer and chilies get dissolved in our mouth and gives us a heavenly feeling. Words fall short and you can’t even stop after eating one samosa. LOL,right!

Yummy!!!! Samosa chaat

It is served hot and is often eaten with fresh green chutney, such as mint, coriander, or red tamarind chutney. Samosas are also served in chaat, with chick pea and garnished with yoghurt, tamarind and green chutney, chopped onions, coriander, and chaat masala. It can also be served with tomato sauce. But most people like to have crunchy samosa without any accompaniment with a cup of masala tea, locally known as masala chai.

Samosas are very much common in all north-Indian festivals and also make their appearance in street food, part snack, restaurants and cafes. From child to elders everyone love to have samosas. There is nothing people will miss, more than a hot samosa especially when they see ketchup lying around.

We see a lot of kids saying samosa is the perfect example of triangle shape. Our mom even try to stop us from having samosas as it is oily and unhealthy, but the fact is haters often hate, We don’t pay much attention. You know why? Because a glimpse of samosa melts our heart from hating it and make us fall in love day by day.
