2020 has been really hard on all of us. This Pandemic has challenged us to come up with solutions to regain our lives.

This case study is one such attempt to make life easier during this pandemic and later as well.

Overview

This mobile application helps people to visit nearby Malls with predefined safety measures and precautions.

Pre-book your visit, Contactless Payments, View available products online and pre-order, Crowd control and many more features making your life easy and safe.

Problem Statement

We all are hit by this global Pandemic and People are feeling unsafe to step outside of their houses.

Target Users

All users stuck at home due to this pandemic and wanting to shop with precautions.

Research and Validation

I conducted a survey with a different set of people around and came up with a solution that helped me to develop an application with all features that would solve the problem.

  • Part of them who enjoy going to shopping malls and spend their time with friends and family , but restricting themselves due to pandemic
  • The other set of people who hate crowds and queue, but love to shop in stores rather than online shopping.
  • Rest of them prefer online shopping due to exclusive offers and coupons which are not available in stores

Crowd Control

Crowd control is a public security practice where large crowds are managed to prevent the outbreak of crowd crushes.

This feature is important in this pandemic to avoid contact with more number of people and staying safe.

Users can check the number of people in the mall and people who booked their slots for visiting the mall for next few hours, with this users can be aware of the crowd and plan their visit accordingly.

Smart Parking

Smart Parking is a feature where people can book their parking spaces without hussle. Also, they can view empty spots left in this application.

This feature also can reduce traffic by making it easier to locate empty parking spaces with the help of sensors, thus lowering the risk of distracted driving.

Way Finder

The WayFinder solution is really popular in shopping malls where the route map of stores will be displayed in a small screen on each floor, but we have set-up the whole map of the mall in this application.

Users can locate themselves in the map and can easily find any store in the mall with directions like google map.

Stores

Users can view all the stores in the mall and view the products available in the particular stores.

This feature helps the user to view the availability of the particular product before visiting the store. This helps to give users the experience of online shopping where users can pick their favourites and wishlist them.

If the desired product is not available, users can pre-order and get notified.

Contactless Payments

The biggest fear is having contact with people while paying bills and getting receipts.

Scanning your bill using this application prevents contact with people directly, also this feature helps in an eco-friendly environment by viewing the bills in the application itself.

Dining and Takeaway

To avoid long waiting queues and having close contact with people, this feature enables users to order food in their app and even get notified about the order status.

Pre-order and Takeaway features are also included to avoid waiting time and contact with people.

Problems I Solved

The above mentioned features were designed to maintain Social distance in this pandemic.

Others problems to look up after the end of this pandemic. So , I have included few features that will make users engaged in this application in the long run.

Daily Check-in

This feature will make users get engaged in the app on a daily basis and earn points through it.

This will make users view the happenings of the mall , explore new offers , stores, products and much more.

Rewards and Coupons

Users will be rewarded with offers and coupons that can be used in their shopping. The coupons can be earned by Scanning bills, referring friends to use this app and many other ways.

Also users can earn their points by playing games which will increase user engagement in the app.

The earned points can be redeemed by unlocking the coupons for particular stores.

My Learning and Conclusion

Having this Global Pandemic in mind, I wanted to come up with a case study that will be used right now for this situation. I interacted with my friends, family and colleagues around me and was able to understand different mind sets of the user.

So I decided to include features that will help in current situation and also understood that short term solution wont work all the time and then included additional features for the app to be used in long run.
