opia — n. the ambiguous intensity of looking someone in the eye, which can feel simultaneously invasive and vulnerable — their pupils glittering, bottomless and opaque — as if you were peering through a hole in the door of a house, able to tell that there’s someone standing there, but unable to tell if you’re looking in or looking out. (by THE DICTIONARY OF OBSCURE SORROWS).

So much we wish to hide, but the door is always open

You could cover it with your forehead, close the curtains. But you would crash into a streetlight.

You may see the floor or see from it.

You’ll be the dirty tile you’ll step with your soles, step by step.

You would be untouchable and everyone would know

¿Why then, look at facades from the sidewalk?

I guess it speaks well of oneself, or the others

Someone may invite me in

¿Or am I an intruder by accident?

So easy it is to read an open book, yet so hard is to read myself being the ink of my own story, in first person

¿Or can you look at yourself without a mirror?

Stretch, twist your eyes, look at at least a thin hair of your eyebrows and know it’s yours.

Without fainting ¿can you? Me neither.

So tell me what you see

Pose yourself on my furniture

Speak to me, from afar, in silence.

Just hold your door, and don’t reveal much…

With an empty map and a vigorous smile, I venture deep into de kaleidoscope, being mesmerized by the vibrant colours. Nothing to lose, nothing to fear.
