But somehow, it did. Let me explain.

On my flight to Toronto I popped on a movie I’ve been meaning to watch — Everything Everywhere All At Once. With all the hype on TikTok, my expectations were high going in and I was afraid that I’d be disappointed. But god, no. Everything Everywhere All At Once is the prototypical example of what the very essence of cinema is — it’s an idea that starts off simple (an Asian-American family who runs a laundromat in a small town in the States), progressing into a full-fledged story that encompasses the silliest and most ridiculous parts of our imagination, and all throughout manages to display the rawness and vulnerability of what it means to be human.

There are so many moments, and even single lines that are both hilarious and truly sad because these guys are so good at taking something ridiculous and treating it with earnestness. Then it ended with a David Byrne and Mitski song over the credits. How could you not love it?

It’s hard to account for recency bias in saying something this definite, but I truly think that this is one of my favourite movies I have ever seen. No, wait. Actually, this is it. It’s my favourite film of all time. No need to account for any bias here. And I know that’s what everyone says until…
