I’m a baby boomer. I grow up at a time when women had to leave jobs when they married. When you needed your husband to sign for loans, hire purchase, anything at all really. When boys began with higher wages than girls because it was assumed they would marry and be the bread winner. Never mind if they were going to spend their wages in the pub and leave their wife and children go hungry. That was the way things where.

Did we take drugs? No. Why? Too busy trying to make ends meet, too busy working, too busy enjoying life for those of us lucky enough to not to have meet said aforementioned male.

We went to nightclubs to dance and meet people, not to drink or do drugs. Yes, we had problems, sometimes bad problems but we didn’t dwell on them. We hadn’t much money but we had dreams and aspirations. Perhaps therein lies the answer?
