Have Bear Spray when hiking in Romania!

Romania is a beautiful country with lots of hiking opportunities, what is why it saddens me when i read about foreign tourists bitten by dogs. The legislation is relaxed, so these kind of accidents tend to happen from time to time.

In order to avoid them, have some bear spray on you.

Bears tend not to attack tourists usually, they do it if they feel threatened or their cubs are in danger (for absolutely no reason go near a bear cub, if you see one, because momma bear is nearby), but dogs, especially those guarding the herds, tend to be more aggressive towards strangers.

Bear spray can be found in outdoor stores all over the country, different brands, different sizes, for prices around 250 lei (50€).

One more thing: shepperds tend to mistake grazing rights for passing rights. They own the land the sheepfold is on, but the land around it they usually only have grazing rights, so dont be intimidated when they claim the land you are passing on is theirs.
