Tentacles and Suction Cups

One of the most distinctive features of octopuses is their eight tentacles, which are lined with rows of suction cups and can be used for a variety of tasks, from grasping prey to exploring their surroundings.

Their suction cups are incredibly strong, and each one can grip objects with a force of up to 35 pounds. The cups are made of a flexible material called chitin, which allows them to conform to the shape of objects and form a tight seal.

One of the primary uses of octopus tentacles is for locomotion. When an octopus wants to move, it extends its arms and uses the suction cups to grip onto the surface below it. The suction cups then contract, pulling the octopus forward. This allows the octopus to move quickly and efficiently over a variety of surfaces.
