First Fort on Hill in Asia! THE TARAGARH FORT, Ajmer (Rajasthan)

According to Akhbar-Ul-Akhyar, The first fort built on a hill in Asia was the “Taragarh Fort”. It was built under the reign of King Ajaypal Chauhan, The Ajaymeru Durg, as it was originally called maintained its reputation for strength and strategic importance between seventh and nineteenth century.

The fort was called “Garh Beetli” from the fact that the Garh(Fortress) was built on the Beetli hill, however the fort was called “Garh Bithali” after Bithaldas Gaur, the trusted general of emperor Shah Jahan.

It is one of the most famous place of Ajmer. It is well known for its Criss-Cross routes which attract tourists to have an adventurous ride to the fort. As it is located at a height of 800 ft. one can easily explore the beauty of Ajmer, while heading off to the fort and crossing the route. As it is built on a steep hillside, beauty of nature can be admired to its fullest. Even the view of the whole city can be enjoyed too.

Prithviraj Smarak! How can one ignore this beautiful place while traveling to Taragarh Fort. Taragarh was the home of the last Hindu Emperor of India, “Prithviraj Chauhan”. To give tribute to Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan, Prithviraj Smarak was built up on the way to Taragarh. This beauty of not so well known city ‘Ajmer’ is also praised by tourists. While going on a visit to Taragarh Fort, no one forgets to step upon Prithviraj Smarak and enjoy and gain knowledge of the well known Hindu Emperor of India “The Prithviraj Chauhan” .

Similarly, there are many more such places in Ajmer, which are inspiring and beautiful as well which hides some or the other story behind them.

So, it is always thrilling to visit such places and forts especially, the ones which hide some story behind them and have a connection with our history.
