The reason why so called “basic income” exists is because property exists. That’s was figured out long ago by communists.
If you have some property you can rent it. When you rent it you’re getting that “basic income” thing as you define it: you’re receiving money without work. That’s how all those interest rates work: you’re renting money. That’s what the capital is: money which produce more money.
But what if everyone had so much property they could self-sustain themselves: own house, own piece of farmland, own water purification device, own solar panels, own workers that don’t need incentive (slaves?). Would they not need money? That’s what communism promises.
The problem with capitalism that people are earning more than they deserve by just the fact of owning something. Communism “fixes” this problem by abolishing ownership and distributing goods by authorities. But authorities doesn’t know what people need, and people aren’t truthful about their needs.
So now there’s this idea of free basic income, where you can have as much money as you want, as long as your lazy neighbors are taken care of. Why would anyone want more money if you’re obliged to take care of more and more people and there’s less and less people you can buy goods from? That’s what the progressive tax system doesn’t explain. How does it move incentive to actually produce things than to consume?
