The Munich Security Conference 2023 panel commenced yesterday and a lot of interesting moves seemed to have taken place. Today, a panel called “Moving Mountains? Building Security in the South Caucasus” featured Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili and OSCE Secretary General Helga Schmid. Prior to the panel, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken held a meeting with one another in Munich. According to reports, Blinken stated that Armenia and Azerbaijan have a historic chance to end the conflict between the two countries. Nikol Pashinyan and the Armenian Government reported that the meeting addressed the progress of the peace treaty drafted between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and the opening of regional transport.

This was a major opportunity for Armenia to address the human rights crisis Azerbaijan has created by blockading Artsakh from the rest of the world. President Pashinyan brought the situation to light once asked about the Lachin Corridor blockade. He responded by saying that the “Corridor has been blocked for 70 days. Unfortunately, there is now a humanitarian crisis in Artsakh, as well as an energy crisis, because the electricity supply and the gas supply to Artsakh is suspended.” We must always bring to light the terrible regime Azerbaijan is, every chance we get, because we must dictate how the narrative is written, not a dictator.
