Coming back from the future and living in this present moment.

I want to start this article with an awesome quote by a wonderful philosopher.

An unexamined life is not worth living. But if all you are doing is EXAMINING- “You are not living”

To make it clear what I’m talking about, let me ask you few questions:

a) While taking shower, do you think about what clothes to wear for office?

b) While dressing up you think about the meetings which you have to attend in office?

c) While attending the meeting you think about some other issue which you have to solve after that, and this list goes on and on till you sleep?

If the answers of the above questions are mostly in yes, then congratulations like most of us you are also living in future or what I call it as IOT. By IOT I doesn’t mean internet of things here (LOL), it basically means illusion of time.

During most of the day, we live in this IOT which means thinking about what’s the next task I have to do and how I’ll do it instead of what I’m doing in this present moment and how I can do it awesomely. Human Beings have an extraordinary advantage of simulating a task before actually doing it but this is only good up to a certain extent. And we are making it as a habit to live in the future, most of the time.

So if I’ll ask- when was the last time you enjoyed below things as if you are doing it for the first time?

  • Taking shower
  • Driving to office, taking a new route
  • The food which you had each time
  • Feeling Mornings, Trees, Air, Sun, Stars
  • Being you
  • Blissful conversations with your friends, family or relatives

You may have to think hard to remember that moment, isn’t it so !!?!1

As lord Buddha also said — The secret of health for both mind and body is not to mourn for the past, nor to worry about the future, but to live in the present moment wisely and earnestly.

Some things which can be done:

  • Remove unneeded possessions
  • Smile
  • Fully appreciate the moments of today
  • Forgive past hurts
  • Dream about the future, but work hard today
