DUDHAWA PROJECT
VT LONDHE DECEMBER 1968- JUNE 1970

This project is located across Mahanadi river near Kanker in Bastar District of the then MP now Chhattisgarh. The main difficulty of this project was that it was leaking very badly through its foundation because of the poor foundation strata and the buried channel existing at the time of its original construction.
We therefore were not able to fill up the dam to a higher level. We therefore intensified the construction of the relief wells on its downstream and tried to release as much seepage as possible with side by side filling of the upstream borrow area pits with black cotton soil so that the leakage is reduced to a lot.
This dam was in fact was not provided with any type of surplussing structure and waste weir was just provided with a rock cut drop. A concrete waste weir was thereafter constructed by us with plum concrete hearting. With such procedure,we could finally win over the leaking situation and started filling of the dam slowly and slowly.
