VEHICLES PASSING OVER THE BRIDGES

V T LONDHE August 2014

It is generally seen that when the bridges are constructed over the rivers the road slabs of the bridge are definitely separated by very specific joints with a distance between the two slabs. Further it is observed that when a vehicle passes over those joints, we have a very specific feeling. The tar finish is definitely covered over the concrete slabs but the joints do give specific feeling while passing over the bridge.

To avoid such feeling:-

(1) We can use the construction as indicated in the sketch shown as at S. No.1 above

(2) We have to cover the joints with hin tar also leaving a very thin space over the original joint so that we do not have that specific feeling.

(3) We can try to put some porous concrete very near to the original joint so that we have the very small joint and cover the joints with hin tar so that we do not have that specific feeling.
