In Geert Hofstede’s work on cultures there is a big component on rituals. Ritual, according to his ‘onion diagram’ is one of the layers that binds the citizens of a community. That reminded me how much I have always been fascinated with the bowing/salutation (examples of rituals) of the various Martial Arts I’m training in and what they represent.

Hofstede’s model of cultures (onion diagram)

Firstly Wing Chun, Tai Chi Chuan/Taiji Quan, Wushu/Shaolin Kung Fu are Chinese Martial Arts. Since the core of the religion/philosophy and culture of Chinese people is related to ‘Taoism’, their bowing showcases that. Everyone knows the Yin-Yang symbol, the main idea…

In Greek Mythology the first woman who walked on earth was Pandora. She was the daughter of Hephaestus, the god of metalworking and sculptures. That’s how Pandora was created, by clay. Her name means ‘the one who received all the gifts’ because Aphrodite, Athena, Hermes and Zeus gave her different gifts.

The gift that everyone knows is ‘the box’ which was the gift that Zeus gave her. By the way in the actual story Hesiod wrote ‘the jar’ but later on the media changed it to a box because it looks and sounds better. …

Since the dawn of times human beings were coming together to build societies and civilizations. Later on we spread across the earth and different countries were created. That made them want to differentiate between each other because of their needs, beliefs, genders, sexualities, races, ethnicity, religions, social status and cultural diversities.

For starters let’s separate the 2 cases to understand why that always happened and it keeps happening.

A lot of different philosophers and scientists who study human nature claim that we need other human beings to be happy. We are social animals. We crave love, friendships and companionship. …

Everything starts from here. Discipline has the power you make people successful, fit or anything else they desire. It separates the champions from the lazy people because hard work always wins talent.

Discipline starts where motivation ends and therefore only those who truly want the results get to experience them.

Steven Pressfield’s Quote

It’s that moment in the morning when you either snooze the alarm or get up, it’s that moment when you have to choose if you are going to finish or not the last round of your workout because you are exhausted and it’s that moment that you have to choose…

Meditation is like the brother of fitness. Without meditating and just working out, you are not a complete whole. Fitness trains the body to stay healthy, whereas the meditation does the same for the mind and the spirit. Therefore when you combine them together, you will be in excellent condition. However, you must do so with correct executions so that you don’t hurt yourself in the process and have negative results in the end.

Meditating

The first people to practice meditation were the Hindus of Vedanta around 1500 B.C. Later on the Taoists of China and the Buddhists of India developed…

Probably you have heard from multiple people that the only way to become the best in what you do whether is your job or a hobby is by learning and practicing only from one source. What if I told you that the opposite of that gives you more results? You might think I’m crazy and I get relevant comments all the time but read further to understand my point of view.

First of all let me clarify that I, myself sometimes concentrate my attention to one specific project to create the required results depending on my standards. Those cases though…

Star Wars Saga

Last week I had this idea for a new blog post series that it’s gonna be fun and informative at the same time. Everyone likes movies. Right? Some of them also teach us valuable life lessons. Why not then? Let’s start this series with my favourite hexalogy, which is Star Wars (yes, I’m a Star Wars geek and proud). Read to understand why.

  • Discipline Anakin is stubborn, he rushes through events without thinking a plan first; he is arrogant and cocky. That’s why Obi-wan tries to teach him how to be more obedient and the reasons why. He wants Anakin…
