The original concept of Vastushastra is based on eight directions and five elements. Besides the subjects Vastushastra consists of an in depth study of concepts like rotation of earth around the sun revolving around its own axis, the energy which the earth receives from the sun and from other planets, cosmic waves, the direction of wind, the electro-magnetic waves and the gravitational force.
Vastushastra suggests more open space in the East and North direction as we receive more Ultra violet rays for a healthy and pleasant atmosphere.
The water reservoirs should be placed in the North East direction so that the Ultra violet rays of the sun can purify the water and the utility of this purified water is helpful to us.
The West and South directions should be enclosed to avoid Infra red rays of the sun which may prove fatal. We tend to receive these infrared rays after 12 noon. The construction of toilets in the West or in the North-West direction as the infrared rays can destroy germs.
