When I was teaching knowledge management (#KM) as a subject in business schools, I used to teach types of learning. But at that time, I never thought of the advantages & disadvantages of them and how can it impact the company’s future. Recently, while talking to one of my clients, I happen to share the same with him. He was curious to know how does it impact his progress… I shared below with him,
- Learning with Experiment: this is a method for genius brains who are busy doing innovation and inventions. They invest resources to experiment, learn, and decode new things for the world and themselves. And it has direct implication with cost and time. Which you cannot overlook.
- Learning with Experience: this is the most common method used by owners. As they are leading from the front they have to face situations, learn from it, set process/model and then delegate to a team. It is to safeguard the interest of team and organization. I also agree that some of the things, you have to experience to learn. But the point to ponder, is it required to experience everything for learning? Can your organization invest its resources and time? Will, that discount your speed of growth? The answer is “YES”. Then what is the alternative? The third method
- Learning from Example: for many of our day to day worries/ uncertainties, there are reference points available. There are people who have already experienced it or learned it… You can refer to their case studies, their situational parameters and learn from that quickly without investing your time and energy. And this is the exact method used for teaching in world’s leading institutes. They showcase examples or cases of such a magnitude that it is quite difficult for one person to experience in a lifetime.

When are you looking at #GrowthHacking do below,
- Learn from the example, with higher pace
- Have someone as a mentor/coach, who has already learned
- Inherit what is relevant for your organization from above and try implementing
“Old saying — Slow and steady wins the race. Current version — Be fast, dynamic and persistent to win the race.”
We can discuss your challenges in learning. Currently, organizations are forced to be agile and learning to sustain in the market. What do you say?
