Dear Auntie Kiki: Balancing bare legs

Lessons in not giving a fu*k and feeling fabulous from our in-house agony aunt, every month @ VAUGHAN.

Dear Auntie Kiki,
I’m a longline 5ft 9 who can barely get a pair of pants that fit at the best of times. In lieu of heading to the big and tall store, I like to show off my legs but often come up short when it comes to size. How can I show off my long legs without going bottoms up?
Yours truly,
Lanky in Long Island.

Dear Lanky in Long Island,

There is only one muse every woman of model sized stature should look to for lofty style inspo, Twiggy. A swinging 60s IT girl that championed the mini skirt, what this Brit-idol did for fashion should go down in the tall girl hall of fame.

The ultimate power move for anyone trying to enhance their lean extremes, summer is ripe with opportunities to let your legs out and showcase that pre-holiday tan à la Lawson. Never one to shy from the double-dare style accoutrements of the era, the legs-eleven teen dream defined fashion with her doe-eyed lashes, pretty boy sweeping bob and hip-to-toe Olympic limbs.

Now returning to the style pages with the re-emergence of asymmetrical separates and the kitten heel, Twiggy style sensibilities and itsy bitsy bottoms are racing to the forefront of SS17 fashion. But, if almost baring your bottom is really not your thing, proportional dressing might just be the solution.

Operating outside the lines of traditional trend pieces, this year’s upcoming micro looks call for long legs and swan-like necks to pull off some of the trickiest front row twists du jour. Thanks to the introduction of cropped designs and distorted dimensions, detailing works in your favour as you can fool your way into any outfit thanks to fringing, oversized adornment and hi-low hems.

Working with 60s style tropes, this herringbone pussy bow blouse from the VAUGHAN Cassie collection is a classic vintage staple with endless versatility. Style with a long ascot front tie and tuck into the high waisted hem of this split hem denim midi. The ideal length with ankle grazing ratios that are oh so outré, this off-kilter denim skirt channels a Vetements attitude to street style, repelling classic proportions with patchwork panelling and rough-combed edges.

Styled with a selection of accessories that make any look an instant off-duty winner, boots are the perfect anti-conformist alternative to conventional summer sandals. A comfortable height that helps to shorten the leg whilst adding to your pin-up potential, these vinyl leather boots work in unison with this angular-handled bag and Perspex cat-eye sunglasses.

An outfit that borrows from the past, present and future of ground-breaking street chic, tower above the style set without forfeiting on fashion with this figure-fooling ensemble that helps bring the eye down to the ground so you can hold your head up high!
