Enjoyed the first piece, but why shut down your son’s conclusion? I can certainly see the perfect irony. And well written. But school is the original place where people gather to discuss and form conclusions. No of course they weren’t there, so are you saying they shouldn’t bother looking to the news reports of eye witnesses who were likely standing near the mother? The response to your son felt like you dismissed his viewpoint on technicality. Perhaps next time he won’t even bother to discuss news events and the discourse from school because you might dismiss the source. I constantly find that people who question the source already have a predetermined opinion they will slide in.

You mentioned the anger in reponses, but I thought your original piece, albeit very entertaining, was provocative and dismissive in tone. You get what you give.
