CS373 Fall 2022: Vincent Chen Blog #9

What did you do this past week?

This past week, spent most of my time working on frontend components and backend tests for my group’s IDB project. The workload in my other classes was fairly light this week, so I was able to dedicate more time towards the project.

What’s in your way?

Nothing really stands in my way for the next week. Quite a bit of work is due on Monday and Tuesday, but these assignments are nearly complete.

What will you do next week?

This next week, I plan to finish up assignments due on Monday and Tuesday and begin studying material for other classes.

What did you think of Paper #9. The Dependency Inversion Principle?

This principle was fairly new to me, so there were a few sections that I had to reread before understanding. However, the examples and diagrams were extremely helpful towards understanding the underlying concept.

What was your experience of the relational algebra, select, and project? (this question will vary, week to week)

I thought relational algebra was fairly straightforward, but the select and project functions gave me a bit of trouble. However, I managed to get a decent grasp of it by the end of the week.

What made you happy this week?

One thing that made me happy this week was being able to see some friends visiting from out of town this weekend.

What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

Throughout this project, I found it helpful to read through the documentation of whatever framework I was about to use before writing any code. This gave me a better understanding of what I was using and how I was supposed to use it.
