Great read. I can totally relate with all these questions. The biggest problem I have experienced is the lack of understanding of the product management role amongst legacy (started around late 90s or early 2000s) internet startups. Since, these startups/corporates had been operating with a strong business team always dictating terms to the technology teams, they don’t understand the role of a PM. For them, Product is just another layer between the business team and the technology team. Hence, instead of directly communicating with the technology team, now they have a PM to talk to who instead will get things done. Works for them. Doesn’t work for a PM.
