“Let’s step up the fashion game. But I have nothing to wear!” How many times have you stared at a wardrobe full of clothes in complete oblivion, not being able to choose? How often have you scrolled through your Myntra wishlist just to realize you’re in a dilemma? “Well, the paradox of choice”. Why, yes. We’ve been sneaking into our mom’s closets and dressing up ever since we ever little. Seems like we should have picked up the art of fashion by now, isn’t it? Fashion, as we describe it, refers to a popular style, especially in clothing, footwear, accessories, makeup, hairstyle, and body. It’s a trend in which a person presents themselves. “Yeah, personal style, or even if I have to follow a trend, I can do it.” Right. All of us can. (Read here for tips on personal styling). So why the hype over personal fashion advice?

A personal stylist is typically someone who advises an individual on new fashion trends, hair, makeup, colors, etc. He/She is concerned with the individual rather than the brand.
From outfit advice to wardrobe makeover, personal styling has become a ubiquitous space. “Sure, but who wants these services?” Our thoughts, precisely! Hence, we carried out a survey to understand who wants personal fashion advice. Here are the results.





Evidently, there are a few noticeable observations. Women in the age group of 25–34 care more about their appearance than men. They have a stronger inclination to look fashionable. 49.4% of the people would ask for fashion advice if available. In many instances, people are unaware of the source or credibility of such an advice. 26% of people also mentioned they were not really satisfied with the kind of advice they received currently (whether from a friend or relative). Additionally, 40.3% of people wouldn’t mind spending a low amount on good quality advice.
“Necessity is the mother of invention.” There is an apparent need for a low end, publically available fashion consultant. Whether it is connecting to image consultants, integrating intelligent recommendation algorithms or providing an offline service, there is a varied range of products and help you can avail. In essence, this space is still young and flourishing. We’ve seen intelligent algorithms which connect you to consultants, recommend similar, complimentary clothes, recommend outfits based on your interests and even perform a reverse image search to fetch you the desired outfit. However, we’re a long way to go from when the product is available and used by all.
