Why I Love Cats
Humans and animals have lived alongside one another for thousands of years. They protected us, kept our homes vermin-free, but perhaps most importantly — they were our companions. These days, the bond between humans and animals is probably stronger than ever. One of those animals is the amazing cat.
If you’re anything like me, you absolutely love cats. Since I was little, I was drawn to them, and pretty soon, I owned one. Perhaps a better explanation is that I was owned by one. The love and affection towards my Siberian cat were baffling to me, so I decided to look into why humans are so drawn to cats.
Main reasons humans love cats
There are so many reasons I can name why one might love a cat. They are fantastic companions, compassionate, affectionate, and overall charming. If you ever had the pleasure of sharing a home with one, you probably know what I am talking about. Just so I have everything in one place, here are a couple of reasons humans are willing to risk a scratch or a bite just for the reward of petting a cat;
Pleasure
The first reason is pleasure. Petting a cat’s soft coat simply feels fantastic, especially if you have a thick-coated cat, like the Siberian I had.
Trust
When an animal trusts you, the feeling is absolutely amazing. When your cat fully trusts you, she can roll on her back for you to scratch her. She might even start purring as if she’s letting you know you enjoy her trust.
Chemical attraction
When you pet your pet, no matter if it’s a cat or a dog, your body produces oxytocin, dopamine, and serotonin. These chemicals will lower your blood pressure, boost the immune system, and enhance the feeling of love. Even if you’re trying to resist it, your body will simply be attracted to petting an animal, whether you like it or not.
In conclusion
Pets are incredibly fun to have around your home. You only need to spend a little time with a cat, and pretty soon, you will be hooked. I personally know many people allergic to cats that voluntarily expose them to allergens just so they can have a cat. They are absolutely amazing, and if you have one, you can consider yourself lucky.
