Sometimes the simplest things in the world are the most beautiful. This is a list of some of my favourite things. These things have no value, yet I value them greater than anything I could buy in a store, because of the feelings they give. In no particular order:

  1. The smell of a freshly mowed lawn.
  2. Seeing vacuum marks on the carpet.
  3. A long hug from someone who smells good.
  4. The warm feeling of a giant pile of laundry that you’ve just pulled from the dryer.
  5. Waking up with zero pain. I mean ZERO pain.
  6. The smell of freshly baked bread.
  7. An unsolicited compliment from someone that you look up to.
  8. The cold side of the pillow.
  9. When your pet wants to cuddle up next to you.
  10. Taking off your bra immediately when you come home after a long day.
  11. The sound of rain.
  12. When your favourite song comes on and you can’t help but sing along.
  13. Smiling without being forced.
  14. When you’re right and you don’t feel the need to say ‘I told you so’.
  15. Really satisfying sex.
  16. Drinking a cold glass of water on a hot summer’s day.
  17. Finding people — friends, family, a significant other — who make you feel less alone. People who you know truly understand you and allow you to be your truest self.
  18. Peeling the plastic off of something you just bought — like a new phone or computer.
  19. Putting on a brand new pair of socks.
  20. When you get the entire row of seats to yourself on the plane. Whether the flight is 20 minutes or 20 hours, it’s a huge deal.
  21. Laughing so hard that you feel yourself starting to cry.
  22. Inner peace
