The way technology is moving these days is so fast that many people don’t even know what is happening around them. Nowadays there all kinds of things that make life easy, take speakers for example. What were they used for? Listening to music? Not now. Because now we have smart speakers which make listening to music even better as they have smart assistants built into them which do almost anything you tell them to do.

AI is taking over the field of technology since the time Apple introduced Siri. Now there are so many companies developing AI — Google, Samsung and even Amazon. But which AI is the best? That’s what we will be discussing in this article.

Apple has introduced Siri since a long time. Earlier it was an app that could be installed on an iPhone but then Apple integrated Siri into the iPhone 4S. Siri hasn’t improved much since then. It is able to do the basic things like making voice calls, making FaceTime calls, sending text messages and opening apps. One can activate Siri by long pressing the home button on the iPhone8+ and below, say ‘Hey Siri’, or long press the side button on the iPhone X. Siri has 2 choices of speech — Male and Female. Siri is also one of the most best sounding AIs around. Siri is also available on the Homepod, which is Apple’s smart speaker.

Amazon’s Alexa is currently 3 years old. Being so young, she is not as good as the other assistants but personally, I am still a big fan of her. Her? Yes, Alexa only has one voice and that is female. One has to have an Amazon Prime membership to access Alexa. Amazon also sells Echo, which is a smart speaker for Alexa. Alexa has a really soothing voice and is pretty polite too. But there are still things Amazon needs to work on for Alexa. To activate Alexa, you need say her name or press the button on the Echo speakers.

Bixby is Samsung’s personal assistant. Released almost 2 years ago on the Samsung Galaxy S8, Bixby is also pretty young. Not only is Bixby is good for making calls, sending text messages and opening apps, she is also good at doing long threads of algorithms. Bixby is user friendly and to access her, you need to press the Bixby button on the Samsung phones, which can often be misunderstood as a power button or say ‘Hi Bixby’.

Google assistant is one of the best AIs around. It was released 3 years ago on the Google Pixel. It could be activated by pressing down the home button or saying ‘Hey Google’ or ‘Okay Google’. But on the Google Pixel 2, Assistant can also be activated by squeezing the phone. Google assistant has 8 voices to choose from and is also available on the Google Home smart speaker series. Assistant is not Pixel exclusive and can activated on any other Android phone running Android 6.0 or greater. For devices which are not Android or have old Android versions, one needs to install the Assistant app. And now Google is also letting users make apps inside the Google Assistant.

Personally, all these AIs are great but in order from best to worst for me, they are -

Google Assistant

Amazon’s Alexa

Samsung’s Bixby

Apple’s Siri
