Creating a consistent image? Let’s do some experiment

The more I make an image with MJ, the more specific image that I’d like to get. It becomes to find more appropriate prompts, seeking how I can define correct prompts that MJ gives a result to me.

Creating consistent images or characters so that I also can create a cartoon or book illustration through the story. People said that ‘seed’ can be used for this purpose. I feel sometimes it works or sometimes it didn’t work. So here I’d like to log some of my tests.

First, let’s understand what seed is and what it means to MJ.

According to the document,

“The Midjourney bot uses a seed number to create a field of visual noise, like television static, as a starting point to generate the initial image grids. Seed numbers are generated randomly for each image but can be specified with the --seed or --sameseed parameter. Using the same seed number and prompt will produce similar ending images.”

I can specify the seed number as 2023. You can see the same prompt and the same seed create the same image.

Let’s make some different movements.

I just added ‘jumping::’ in the prompt and the followings are the results. You need to keep the initial prompt and add something. You can see the same each cat in the original is jumping.

However, you might want to pick one of the cats from these 4. I picked the second cat and clicked U2 to get a bigger image.

I wonder if this image still has the same seed.

If you mouse over to the image and click the right button you can send emoji. Find ‘envelope’ icon and send it. it will respond with the JobID and Seed of this image.

You see, the Seed is changed. So if I add to change the image with this cat, I need to use this seed.

With the new seed number, I can add changes like that.

How about Remix mode? I tried with the same seed parameter but its result was quite different and the seed is changed with different values.

Summary:

  • I can specify the initial seed
  • Upscale and variation change seed

I hope this helps you. Enjoy MJ.
