Black History Month.
Next time you’re driving and encounter one of those ubiquitous 3 signal traffic lights…be aware that such a signal type was first patented by an African American man by the name of Garrett Morgan way back in 1923.
Erasure of knowledge about the significance of the efforts (and lives) of African Americans…that’s what white dominated culture works diligently to accomplish. Now you know, at least in part, why Black History Month is so very important. Erasure works 24/7 during all the months, trying to resist that stuff by officially designating the shortest month of the year as a remedy is tough.
But…next time you see a traffic light…do your part to counter such erasures and remember Garrett Morgan.
