Whites were spitting on her, calling her names, throwing sticks and stones and milk cartons, telling her to go back to Africa. She was not afraid. She did not get angry. She just kept walking. By the time she got to the front door, spit was dripping off the bottom of her dress.”
More and more, it is apparent to me that most (like 99%) of any/all opposition to “freedom” and “liberty” and “justice” and “equality” here in the U.S. comes from we white people. And…it’s always been that way and unless/until enough of us white people do the work necessary to get our minds and hearts and principles straight…that’s going to continue.
I listened to a young white woman (a 37 year old) talk last week about how “shocked” and upset she was that Trump was elected. She had no right and/or business being “shocked”. Upset, ok, but shocked? That simply meant she has been deliberately deceiving herself for many years. Her “shock” was an indicator of her complicity in allowing him into office.
I’m an old white man and I’m bored with us white people being oblivious to our own awfulness. There’s no excuse for it. Especially if you’ve lived as an adult for a few years. Kids…they don’t know any better but any adult has all the information available they need to comprehend what’s been going on from the beginning here in the U.S.
But…it takes some courage and some integrity to face up to truth and to work at upholding “freedom” and all that. And…that stuff seems to be in short supply among us white folks.
Any system that would allow Trump into the white house is a system that is despicable. Or…maybe the problem is with who runs the system. Guess who that is…(hint: it’s white men).
If you’re white…get to work on decolonizing your mind and heart and comprehension. Now. This crap has to stop. Get white men out of power…they’ve (me included) have screwed things up for long enough.
And…scrutinize white women closely too…they’re usually better than we white men…but not by much (apparently). Jeez…
