I’m hoping you’re accurate in your thinking and I’m also cognizant that the youth of the 1960s had much the same viewpoint and yet once they began moving further away from their youth they tended to become supporters of that which they once struggled against. Especially us white folks…watch out for us.

What’s spooky…based on the election results…the white millennials voted in favor of (by a majority anyway) the debacle in this election. That’s actually worse (I think) than white youth did back in the 1960s.

The myth (of “America”) has been a myth from the get go and I’m not so sure that we white folks are much closer to waking up from that deluded state than we ever were (regardless of age cohort). I hope so, but I dunno.

Maybe it is also a myth that the youth will save day. Maybe it’s more accurate to say that teaching the youth to see through the myth is less difficult than working to teach someone older to see through the myth?

We’ve never really actually managed to “teach your children well…”, that doesn’t mean it can’t be done but it does mean it’s maybe erroneous to think youth alone is going to take care of it. One of the slogans of the 1960s was “never trust anyone over 30”…oops…that didn’t work out so well.

Maybe it is that youth (at least those who are deluded by whiteness) aren’t as much the answer (as is often believed) as folks of any age who are irrevocably committed to genuine “liberty and justice for all”. That’s a lot tougher than just being young. For those who are fortunate enough to continue living, youth disappears, it’s the commitment to principles that’s important…not youth.

I would be delighted if your statement “…they’re going to face a young America who is hungry to make America great, finally.” turns out to be spot on. In the meantime, be cognizant that “young America” (at least that segment that’s stumbling around in whiteness) isn’t looking too good so far.
