As a passionate data analysis and football enthusiast, I am thrilled to share my recent work on visualizing UEFA EURO 2024 data using Tableau. In this blog, I will walk you through the two dashboards I’ve created: the Overall Dashboard and the Player Level Dashboard. These dashboards provide comprehensive insights into the tournament and the players, leveraging the powerful visualization capabilities of Tableau.

Overall Dashboard

The Overall Dashboard offers a macro view of all the participating countries in the UEFA EURO 2024 tournament. Here’s a breakdown of the different views included:

  1. Goals by Players
  • Visualization Type: Scatter Plot
  • Purpose: This view helps identify outliers among players based on their age and the number of goals scored. Each dot represents a player.
  • Interactive Feature: A dynamic reference line allows users to set an age parameter, dividing players into “above age” and “below age” categories. This interaction makes it easy to compare players based on a specific age threshold.

2. Goals by Age

  • Visualization Type: Bar Chart
  • Purpose: This chart categorizes goals scored by players into age bins, ranging from 15 to 40 years old, with a bin size of 5 years. It provides a clear overview of how goal-scoring ability varies across different age groups.

3. Goals by Country

  • Visualization Type: Donut Chart
  • Purpose: This view displays the total number of goals scored by each country, with the inner ring showing the cumulative goals of all countries combined. Each segment is color-coded to match the respective country’s flag colors, offering a visually engaging representation of the data.

4. Market Value by Country

  • Visualization Type: Map Chart
  • Purpose: This map uses football-shaped markers to indicate the market value of each country’s team. The size of the football icon corresponds to the revenue, with larger icons representing higher revenues. This geographical representation helps in understanding the economic impact of each team.

Additionally, the dashboard includes quick links to my LinkedIn, website, and Tableau profile, conveniently placed at the bottom left corner.

Player Level Dashboard

The Player Level Dashboard dives into detailed player information, presented in a card format for an intuitive and interactive user experience. Here’s a closer look at its features:

Interactive Filters
Globe Icon:
Located at the top left corner, this icon opens a filter panel when clicked. Users can filter the dashboard based on their country selection, offering a personalized view of the data.

Player Cards
Role Indicators:
Each player card includes a shape indicating the player’s role (Goalkeeper, Defense, Midfield, Attack), with icons clearly explained at the top of the dashboard.

Tooltip Information: Hovering over a player’s name role indicators reveals a tooltip with detailed information, including position, club, age, height, foot, caps, goals, and market value. This feature provides quick access to comprehensive player data.

Dashboard Navigation
Switch Button:
A button at the top right allows users to toggle between the Overall Dashboard and the Player Level Dashboard, ensuring seamless navigation.

Similar to the Overall Dashboard, this dashboard also includes quick links to my LinkedIn, website, and Tableau profile at the bottom left corner.

Conclusion

These dashboards aim to provide an engaging and informative experience for football fans and analysts, showcasing the capabilities of Tableau in visualizing complex datasets. Whether you are interested in macro-level insights about the tournament or detailed player statistics, these dashboards offer a rich and interactive way to explore UEFA EURO 2024 data.

I hope you find these dashboards as exciting to explore as I did to create. Feel free to connect with me on LinkedIn or visit my website for more of my work. Let’s dive into the world of football data together!
