Dots vs. polygons: How I choose the right visualization

In other words, I don’t like hexbins, they just oscure the map, and are not so appealing visually, with various visual problems; as well they obsure more the data using excessive aggregation with a too low resolution (because the only way to avoid artefacts with hexbins is to increase the hex cell sizes, meaning you’ll represent less data)

Square grids are just visually better and it’s simpler to define the resolution. Additionally most statistic datasets are already arranged originally in square grids.
