The beauty of a fresh start

“Don’t stumble over something that is behind you.”

A long time ago, I decided that I as a human being want to live on the bright side of life. And by this I mean finding my own personal way to happiness. Of course, everyone wants to be happy, so why even bother to mention that all over again? You’d be completely out of your mind if happiness wouldn’t be an attractive goal for you. Exactly. Then why is it that almost every time I look around people seem everything but happy. Instead I often see anger, frustration, sadness and a whole lot of bitterness. I know it’s hard to put on your smiley face when you are just having a bad day but there is way more to it than that.

I think one of the main reasons people aren’t as happy in their daily life is because they think way too much about their past. What did I do wrong? Why didn’t I do this or that? People sometimes get so stressed out with their could haves and should haves that they almost forget to think about their will haves. I did it too, all the overthinking and analyzing the past gave me many sleepless nights. But does it really help you moving forward if you are always trying to find answers in the past? Maybe we would see things completely differently if we forgot the burden of the past for a moment and completely focus on what the future might hold for us.

Of course, you shouldn’t forget about your past at all since there is a lot to learn from it. But in my opinion it is fatal to let your thoughts strive to your past too often. Just in case you want to move forward and I guess that’s what we all do.

We all have chapters we would rather keep unpublished. But it doesn’t really make that much sense to focus on something we will never be able to change anyway.

For me, especially in business it is crucial to be focused on the future. You have to think ahead most of the time and is just not working if you constantly think about some past events.

Ok, you want to learn from your past mistakes? Well, ask yourself why it happened, take some notes and then move on. Don’t let yourself be defined by something that is no longer relevant.

The beauty of the past is that none of it ever has to happen again. And if you realize that, you can be become the architect of your own future. If circumstances don’t give you a fresh start, give it to yourself. You deserve to start the rest of your life with a clean slate but it’s all about how you look at it. I didn’t ask for a fresh start for a long time but then fate took over. Now I realize that it is the best thing that ever happened to me. I had the opportunity to start over and I took it. And by starting over I don’t mean giving every aspect of your life a full turnaround, sometimes even tiny steps away from your past worries can bring you much closer to a happy future. A future that can become brighter than you think. If you just let it. Because in the end the past is in the past but the future can be wherever you want it to be.

So go ahead and give yourself a fresh start — you deserve it!
