Winter is almost here, and there is a considerable number of homeless people on the street. It is a good bet that most of us have a few regular homeless people in our neighborhoods. Here in Prague, we already experienced a few days with temperatures below -7 degrees Celsius (~ 20 degrees Fahrenheit). It is going to be a long winter and quite hard if you don’t have a roof or shelter to go to.

There are at least two organizations in Prague that provide aid and accept donations:

  • Nocleženka: is an organization to which anyone can donate vouchers enabling a homeless person to stay in a shelter: https://noclezenka.cz/
  • Nadeje: is an organization helping homeless people and people in need. https://www.nadeje.cz/

Winter Care Bags for Homeless

For people that would like to help their local people in need, we did some research and assembled a list of items to build a care bag with some essentials.

If you live in Czechia or surrounding countries, you can use the Alza shop to purchase the items directly using this shared list.

If you have the opportunity to talk to the individuals and ask what they need is better. Here is the list of generic items we assembled:

  • Winter socks size 43–47 (average men, will depend on region)
  • Winter socks size 35–40 (average women, will depend on region)
  • Nail clippers
  • Hairbrush
  • Toothbrush
  • Toothpaste
  • Wet wipes
  • Hand cream
  • Bandage tape
  • Sterile hydrophilic dressing (bandages)
  • Lip Balm
  • Thermal blanket
  • Toe warmers
  • Chewable vitamins
  • Sanitary towels or pads for women
  • Ziploc bags
