Miami Beach Eroding Shoreline
When I was a child I would go to Miami Beach and walk for what seemed to be forever to get to the edge of the water throw my shoes in the sand and jump right in. Last year I went on a helicopter ride along the coast and I noticed how narrow our beach was. Later that week I went to the beach and walked for what seemed to be 5 seconds to the edge of the water. In the beginning of 2017 an 11.5 million dollar project was set in to motion in order to save our shore. Many truckloads of sand were used to widen the beach, which consisted of around 285,000 tons of sand. This project widened our shore about 230ft. Although this project solved our narrowing shoreline problem, is this a permanent solution to our coastal erosion? Only time will tell.
