We will have to agree to disagree on this one. Big time. I know all of those things about McCain. It doesn’t diminish the parts of him that were decent and honorable and courageous.

I have elected to take Hillary’s lead on this. She and John respected each other and worked well together in the Senate. They were friends. With her remembrances about John this last week… I didn’t hear one bit of bitterness or anger from her about things that John did and said that surely were disappointments to her.

She lives her faith… and she clearly has chosen to focus on what she valued about John. She has forgiven. It shows strength of character and is one of the things I admire most about her.

No matter what, the planning John did for his departure was brilliant. And it WAS in fact, an opportunity for us to remember the norms and rituals and courtesies that hold our Democratic society in place. While at the same time, it flew in the face of the petulant pretender in our WH, who spent the early morning hours tweeting his toxic nonsense.

Hillary grieves for John and honors the best in him. She is intentionally looking at his life in it’s entirety and celebrating the positive in all the ways she can. We could learn a lot from Hill.
