What would happen if the US left the WTO?
Donald J. Trump has threatened to exit the 163-country World Trade Organization (WTO), which the United States played a leading role in creating and fostering.

Well that’s the headline, which is being played on media these days.Trump pulling out the US out of WTO.Given the unpredictability of Trump and his previous decisions such as withdrawing from Paris climate accord or not abiding by Iran deal — he has already shown that is he does not hesitate taking bold decisions.
In the latest response the head of the WTO has responded to President Donald Trump’s threat to leave the institution by warning such a move would cause chaos for U.S. companies operating around the world.
Let’s look how will it play out, if the US decides to leave the WTO.
The scenarios are not going to be good for anyone, “The U.S. is about 11 percent of global trade. So leaving the organization would be a blow to the organization. But it would be a blow to the U.S. as well “— WTO’s director general. There would be no telling how far Trump would go if he was unshackled from the constraints of the current international trading system. And there is little doubt that Canada, which exports over 75 per cent of what it makes to the U.S., would be extremely vulnerable to American trade harassment. Essentially, Canada would be left with no way to seek redress to restrictive U.S. trade practices — other than the NAFTA (via trade panels, by the way, that Trump is now insisting be terminated).
U.S. businesses will become vulnerable to commercial discrimination and new tariffs around the world if non-U.S. members were no longer bound by the WTO’s rules.
