A Rails Dev’s Perspective on Learning Phoenix
Jean Joeris

Both Erlang and Elixir (and you should know Erlang to be productive in Elixir and OTP) are very specific instruments. It is plain wrong to compare Rails that is a great web framework for everything except real-time interactions with Phoenix that is great for chats and stuff, but is still a very fast moving target, has less libs than Rails and not so great in working with DB as I’ve heard (ActiveRecord is a great tool)

So I think it is a great idea to learn some Elixir (and functional programming along the way), but Phoenix still has a pretty long way to become something generally useful.
