iOS needs to copy Snapchat’s graphic representation of volume

Ever since the first iPhone, when you move the volume up or down, iOS has shown a square graphic in the middle of your device’s screen so you can see how much of its capacity you are using. It is a very simple way to let the user calibrate the volume to his/her will. It looks like this:

That box with rounded corners hasn’t changed much since 2007.

It was a fine addition for the first iPhone, but it has become annoying on some occasions.

For example, when you’re watching video and want to quickly adjust the volume while watching, normally this happens:

Creds to Owen Williams for the spot-on tweet.

Obviously this sucks because the graphic covers almost half of what I’m trying to watch, and for more than a solid 2 seconds. Yeah.

There are only a couple of situations where adjusting the volume doesn’t make that square appear:

On the Control Center, because that has its own volume widget.

It’s Friday indeed, Marques.

And on Snapchat, that has a brilliant idea about how volume calibration should look on a phone. This is it:

Wait what are we supposed to do with that link?! Screenshot the snap and then manually type it? LOL

Much better right? The subtle bar at the top of the screen is just as accurate as the regular iOS graphic but doesn’t interfere with your watching experience.

Clearly, the Snapchat way is drastically superior.

I know it is a very little thing and absolutely #FirstWorldProbz but Snapchat has just totally nailed it, and Apple should apply this throughout all of its mobile operating system. I know people would love it.
