Apologies Rejected
Lloyd Taco’s food truck ran in to trouble recently, suffering a firestorm on Twitter. The Buffalo-based franchise sent one of its vehicles to a detention center housing illegal immigrants. That raised the ire of critics who objected to the selling of food to ICE employees. The company apologized. That set off folks outraged at the caving to such a demand. Another apology ensued. This proves that things can get even more idiotic.

From NPR: “As Growth Slows To 1.9%, The Economy Is Falling Short Of Trump’s Target.”
CNBC: “Slow growth fears are fading away as better-than-expected economic numbers roll in.” Although I support the President’s policies, I am disappointed that GDP growth isn’t a lot better.
I’m surprised at my near indifference to the impeachment farce. I’m not sure if it’s because I think it will go nowhere, or the sense of futility engendered by the thought that once Trump is gone the swamp will regain full control — to the detriment of the country.
While watching a youtube video on discoveries science has yet to explain, the narrator used a term I’d not heard previously — BCE — Before Common Era. It’s the same as BC — Before Christ. A Google search reveals that AD — Anno Domini — has been replaced by CE — Common Era. The terms are an effort to avoid citing Christianity, the presenting of Christ as Lord. They actually date from the 1700’s. It’s hard to believe I’d never noticed them until now.
Yay! Trick-or-Treaters did not take all of the candy I’d dumped in a box at my doorstep. Most of what’s left is Tootsie Rolls — but they’re mine, all mine!
After two-and-a-half years, the scaffold at my regular book nook is being dismantled. It served me well, allowing me to display the full inventory when rain threatened, and even to operate during light rain, as long as the wind wasn’t blowing moisture around. It also provided shade during the heat of summer. There will be only one advantage. I will be able to set up shop near the corner of East 13th, where the sunshine strikes for a couple of hours each day. That won’t help when the breeze is strong now that the cold months are here. I’ll have to go to my alternate site, where I will be spending a lot more time until late spring. In summer, if I remember correctly, the apartment building provides shade on at least half the sidewalk most of the day. The problem will be when there is a threat of rain. I’ll have to stay home or do a limited edition under the viaduct three blocks away. It’s back to the way I operated pre-scaffold.
Having to go elsewhere today worked out nicely. My thanks to the woman who bought six books in Russian; and to the other who purchased two large books on health; and to the young lady who chose Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky — in English; and to the other who selected The Stand by Stephen King; and to Bek, the only male customer of the session, who opted for a philosophical work whose title escapes me.
