Skin, Glorious Skin…

Did you know that skin is the largest organ of the body and… did you also know that what we put on our skin goes into our bodies because our skin is porous? Well, it’s true!!

That’s why it is so very important that we are careful about what goes onto our skin… and hence into our bodies.

Have you ever looked at the list of ingredients on drugstore lotions and skin care products?

Yikes… it is a scary adventure trying to read through the list of unpronounceable ingredients!

But here are a few of my very favorite healthy skin enhancing choices for feeding your skin and body and watching yourself glow!!

If at all possible… organic products please!

Coconut oil is amazing and smells so good too. It works as a great hair and body moisturizer.

Walnut oil is probably my all around favorite. It’s a little heavier than coconut oil and works well for my dry skin here in Arizona.

Some of my other top oils are:

  • Olive oil
  • Avocado oil
  • Apricot kernel oil
  • Almond oil
  • Jojoba oil
  • Rose hip oil… Rich in vitamin c and collagen
  • Grapefruit oil… Great for cellulite
  • Geranium oil… helps with toning the skin

It’s fun to experiment and create a mixture of the various oils and then essential oils to the blend creating tantalizing fragrant mixtures with such healing benefits.

For a list of essential oils follow this link.

Below are some of my tried and true products that I use on a regular basis…

Don’t worry about going wild with too many oils to start with… If you have one or two on hand that’s a great place to start… they can be a bit costly! Use what you have on hand… be creative and have fun!

I love to make a sugar scrub that I use as a cleanser for face and body… It will remove dead skin cells and impurities and deeply moisturize and nourish your skin all at the same time!

Sugar Scrub Recipe

Find a very pretty little container

  • ½ cup natural sugar

Now slowly pour in coconut oil or walnut oil just enough to moisten the sugar all the way through.

You can add essential oils for fragrance if you like.

Exotic Facial Oil Blend

Use whatever base oil you have on hand:

  • 1/4 cup coconut, almond, apricot or walnut oil OR a combination
  • Then add any of the following that you might have on hand:
  • 20 drops Rose hip oil
  • 10 drops Geranium
  • 20 drops of argan oil
  • 10 drops Vitamin E oil
  • 20 drops Jojoba oil

To use:

I splash my face and neck with warm water then apply several drops of oil onto my face gently massaging in. Use under your other facial products for a beautiful glow!

Mimi’s ‘Mazing Body Butter

This is an amazing body butter that smells so good you’ll want to eat it and you can!

It also makes beautiful little gifts!

Please use organic products if possible:

Place in top of double boiler. If you don’t have one, just place a glass or metal bowl over a pot with boiling water:

· ½ cup cocoa butter

· ½ cup shea butter

When melted add:

· ½ cup coconut oil

· ½ cup walnut oil

· ½ teaspoon of essential oils … My favorites are lavender, grapefruit, geranium or pure vanilla extract

Place the mixture in the refrigerator until the mixture gets firm.

Using an electric mixer whip until light and fluffy.

Spoon into pretty little glass containers, make a label and pass them out to your friends… they will be forever grateful!
