How these Pink Floyd Fans Prove You Don’t Need to Go Into “Interstellar Overdrive” For Good Design

The Floyd Room, an Airbnb for Pink Floyd fans, by Pink Floyd fans demonstrates one of the most important but often overlooked design principles, the principle of restraint.

Turntable with Pink Floyd LPs, more than fifty books on Pink Floyd, and a black acoustic guitar with colored strings.
There’s even a fish bowl with two cactuses called David and Roger in it (and they get along just fine!). How many of these Pink Floyd references do you get?
Kids love these pencil holders made from real cassette tape covers by Boris & Iva.
Boris lends LPs from his own collection for your listening pleasure.

Opposite to the screen is a projector from the sixties, which is very similar to the one the band was using in the early days. Also, notice the table shaped like a guitar pick.
Four wall clocks showing the local times in Montreal, Cambridge, Pompeii, and Baikonur sit on a simple IKEA shelf. Each city holds special meaning for Pink Floyd fans.
Boris and Iva used his graphic design skills to make this fun Atom Heart Mother puzzle.
If guests want to build a Lego wall of their own they can choose any color they like…… as long it’s white!
Simple black IKEA bar stools are transformed into records with A Nice Pair LP stickers.
The album artwork displayed in the Floyd Room is meant to be as subtle as possible and they chose only the artwork based on Hipgnosis iconography, known for their quirky humor and surreal qualities.
Another custom made piece in the Floyd Room is the Iconic double face image from the Division Bell album that Boris and Iva bought locally made from an artist in Split, Croatia.
Although the large picture above the bed carries the theme into the bedroom space retains its unique boutique feel, while also encouraging peacefulness, and rest.
The bedrooms’ designs are cohesive with the overall theme but they are not burdened with non-essentials in keeping with Ram’s 10th design principle of simplicity.
For non-Pink Floyd fans, the backsplash choice is clean and bright. For Pink Floyd fans it’s Another Brick in the Wall.
The Floyd Room sign is original to the 80-year-old house which used to be home to a paint shop in the traditionally working-class neighborhood, seeing a resurgence for its established roots, and proximity to the city center.
When you leave the Floyd Room with your pick keychain you’ll know Boris and Iva are your people!
