I believe strongly in single sex education for a few years. I have two daughters and they go to an all girls school. It is a ‘bitchfest’ but at their current age I think it works better educationally for the sexes to be educated separately. A number of my friends with sons have sent their boys to a popular all-boy secondary school as well. Boys at the puberty stages thrive better in an environment that is designed to suit their needs, rather than having to conform to the needs of girls. Mixed sex schools tend to feminize the education system, boys are encouraged to be ‘like girls’ and do not get the chance to expend all that testosterone in a positive way, leading to other problems. At 6th form age the single sex schools switch to mixed sex enrolement (age 17).
