The best Demo always win and to create best demo you have to have the right team and perfect distribution of time. Most people make mistake of only concentrating on products. They tend to forget they have to demonstrate the product with a great pitching.
So here are 8 tips to excel at the hackathons
- Understand the judge panels. You have to know what they are looking for by the end of the event and is your idea matching with it or you have to tweak it to match to their interest.
- You have to be hungry enough to win and make sure you find someone that is as hungry as you. Form a team with talents that you are lacking and you think you can tune together. Let’s say your an “idea” guy. You have lots of ideas but don’t know how to implement it. So you have to find a developer and designer but it’s not only that, you have to make sure your team members can tune and understand your idea and sees the same vision.
- Don’t forget your business model. Create a business model canvas. You have to know about your space. Are there any competitors? What pain point your service can solve? How are you going earn? How will people know about your product?
- Understand what it will take to create your idea fast. Do you really need back end? Do you really need the functions you are thinking of? If you have 10 functions list out few that you really need to impress the judges. You need the fast and impressive solution.
- Plan out each activity, time them and rate them according to their importance. Once you have written down you will have a clearer picture as a whole and know what to do first and how much approximate time will it consume to do each task.
- Don’t forget about UX/UI. Even though your idea is great but if it is difficult for judges to use without your demonstration it’s a bad sign. Make sure you have design the user journey mapping. Each interaction they will have with your service and how are you going to make it easier and better?
- Remember you just need a DEMO, not the whole product. So use tools that can create efficiency to build the prototype.
- Practice practice and practice your pitching! You have to be confident and show them your product is solving the real problem and your product has the ability to scale exponentially and earn loads of money!
