I think we can also find clues of altruism in the drive theory. Some “selfish” drives may lead to an apparent altruism. Gratification, for example, may be at the base of “altruistic” actions. Or more complex drives — such civism and faith — may be the “selfish” motivation for caring about society or the others.

True altruistic sacrifices emerge with awareness of values, spiritual goals, love. Else, some selfish reason is there.
