That’s a great lesson I still struggle to learn.
“Do not lie” in one my most important rules in life. And I always try to be authentic and honest. But it can come in active or passive mode.
With stangers or simple acquantainces, I know well that it’s not necessary to speak every time you feel it would be for the best. Some people simply don’t deserve it and are not able to get it, so this will only hurt you. With my family and friends, I’m more frank — maybe too much — , but this can be an error too. Not everyone is interested in improving, or doing the “right thing”. Still, they may be good persons anyway and, when they are, they deserve your attention but too much candor is maybe more a selfish and useless thing.
